National Slate Museum Redevelopment Project
The Marketing Project Manager will be based full-time at the National Slate Museum, Llanberis.
This is an exciting opportunity to play your part in the transformation of one of Amgueddfa Cymru’s best-loved museums. The National Slate Museum Redevelopment Project will conserve, improve and interpret the exceptional Amgueddfa Llechi site and create a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS) gateway supporting traditional skills, learning and wellbeing.
The project will engage and inspire both communities and visitors, connecting people to the remarkable story of the slate industry and the globally significant landscape it has shaped.
This project will work closely with partners, including Cyngor Gwynedd, as they deliver on ambitious plans to redevelop Parc Padarn country park surrounding the museum. The redevelopment project will integrate with wider developments as part of a vision for sustainable tourism that is sensitive and responsive to local communities.
Amgueddfa Cymru is committed to creating new and different spaces where people see themselves and feel that they belong. The Project will work with local communities and voices to create inspirational spaces and experiences offering a unique perspective on the history of the slate quarrying communities that shaped this area of Wales. The Project will:
1. Improve public enjoyment, access and wellbeing through the visitor experience by improving facilities for all at Gilfach Ddu and create opportunities to explore the museum digitally.
2. Conserve and renovate the significant Grade 1 buildings and collections of Gilfach Ddu and safeguard and share the intangible cultural heritage through the preservation and development of traditional skills related to the slate industry.
3. As the gateway to the World Heritage Site, increase understanding of the Northwest Wales Slate Landscape UNESCO designation for communities and visitors through innovative, high-quality, community-centred interpretation of the Internationally Significant Slate Story.
4. Enable more people from all backgrounds to learn throughout life, develop their skills and be creative. Create inspiring and engaging opportunities, resources and spaces for developing traditional craft skills, learning, volunteering, employment, wellbeing and creativity.
5. Place Environmental Sustainability at the heart of the museum. Enable sustainable and decarbonisation improvements to the museum buildings and environs, infrastructure, and operations. Reflect the site’s historic, innovative approach to sustainability in the interpretation.
6. Better connect people and communities with Amgueddfa Cymru’s diverse collections, ensuring everyone is represented. Involve people and communities in telling the inspiring stories of local, national and international significance of the slate industry, its people and the environment, on-site and digitally.
A key objective of the project is to create an exemplar of sustainability that supports communities from across northwest Wales, economically, socially and culturally.
As Marketing Project Manager, you will develop and deliver creative and impactful campaigns which amplify the work and vision of the National Slate Museum Redevelopment Project.
