The role

Welsh? Keen Journalist? Social media literate?

This role’s for you.

We have an amazing opportunity for a digitally focused journalist to join our Welsh language production team at ITV Cymru Wales. Working alongside two trainee journalists, in this role you’ll be presenting and producing online content for our youth platform - Hansh Dim Sbin (@hanshdimsbin) and will be the face of its 2026 Senedd Election campaign for 16-24 year olds.

Who are we looking for?

Someone with original and ambitious ideas and a passion for  producing current affairs content that’s accessible and relatable to young people in Wales.

We want someone with an excellent understanding of Welsh current affairs and the drive and passion to find a variety of new voices and stories from all corners of Wales, particularly those that are sometimes under-represented.  Ideally, you will have had previous experience of working as a journalist or content creator.

The ability to speak and write in Welsh to a high standard is essential.

What does the role involve?

Your day-to-day will involve reacting to stories that are happening in the news by creating fresh youth-focused content for social media platforms. You’ll also have room to   research and report your own original journalism content on topics ranging from celebrity culture to politics.

To be considered for the role, we’ve got a task for you…

Along with your application, we’d like you to present the following:

Please present a short-form video suitable for TikTok/InstagramReels (max 2 minutes) on a news story or current affairs topic of your choice. Think about the 16-24 year-old demographic and the type of story that would appeal to Hansh Dim Sbin’s audience.

This should be produced in the Welsh language.

You can record your clip by using a mobile or equivalent device, upload the footage to Youtube (further guide here  Youtube)  or similar (which will generate a link to submit - you will need to create a Youtube account).

Remember to label the clip clearly with your name.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria):

  • Fluency in Welsh language (both spoken and written)

  • Experience in digital storytelling and/or journalism

  • Political and compliance knowledge with proven track record of impartiality

  • Great understanding of digital platforms and strategies

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria):

  • A passion for news and current affairs

  • A passion to increase representation and improve accessibility of Welsh language news content for young audiences

  • A creative thinker

  • Team player

—

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is at the heart of what we do at ITV Cymru Wales and we want to ensure we reflect our audience both on screen and in our workforce. ITV is for Everyone and we encourage applications from Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent people and People of Colour to apply for this role.

Newsrooms are busy and pressurised environments, involving live news production, which often requires colleagues to make quick decisions under pressure. We also need people who are able to use their initiative and, particularly for editorial roles, know what information might be required and how to research it.

We need to test these abilities at the interview stage to understand how candidates will react when operating in a pressurised environment. This is a fundamental requirement of the role. We will always consider any request for reasonable adjustments as part of the interview process, for example sharing key themes when that is requested in connection with a neurodivergent condition, whilst still ensuring that we are able to test a candidate's ability to operate in the specific environment of a newsroom.

At ITV, we appreciate the use of technology for research during the application process. We understand that AI tools, including ChatGPT, can be valuable resources. However, we value authenticity and expect applicants to showcase their own thoughts and experiences.

Applications that appear to be directly copied from AI-generated content may be subject to rejection. We believe in a fair and authentic assessment process, and your individuality is key to standing out in our selection.
