Role responsibilities

The Bus Ticketing Equipment Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of Transport for Wales (TfW) national approach to bus ticketing equipment and fares and ticketing configuration as part of both the current and future franchised bus network across Wales.

  • Deliver new approaches and system roll out by working with bus operators and local authorities, both in the pre-franchise environment, during transition and post franchise implementation, to ensure a consistent and effective technical approach to bus fares and ticketing delivery across Wales.
  • Manage the day-to-day interface in respect of ticketing infrastructure between bus operators, contracting authorities, and TfW and the Welsh Government, through face to face and virtual meetings to ensure business requirements are met and are technically supported.  
  • Manage contracts and relationships with suppliers of bus ticketing infrastructure through regular face to face and virtual meetings to ensure that the fares and ticketing environment is supported and maintained and that issues raised by operators and TfW are promptly addressed.
  • Develop the specification for bus fares systems, through awareness of the current supplier market and evolving innovations, dialogue with operators and within TfW to ensure that the specification that will deliver the required outcomes for a single supplier approach to on-bus ticketing equipment across Wales as part of bus franchising.

 

 

Who we’re looking for

  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking ETM and associated hardware configuration in respect of products, fares and service set-up and their integration into wider public transport operations and systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of configuration of ETM back-office systems and reporting tools, ETM system fault resolution, and collaborative working with operators and suppliers to achieve these outcomes
  • Demonstrable experience of managing transport projects and budgets, risk management, including business plan development, forecasting and monitoring spend.
  • Demonstrable experience of collaborative working with local and national government and a proven track record of working in partnership within the public and private sector, and demonstrate experience of drawing together and managing relationships and delivering challenging technical and enhancement projects with a transport focus.

 

 

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.

Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills.
