About Us

Eryri National Park Authority protects the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of Eryri National Park. Covering 823 square miles, the Park is home to the highest mountain in Wales, the largest natural lake in Wales, and over 26,000 people.

We are now looking for a Woodland Apprentice to join us on a full-time basis, working 37 hours per week, for a 12 month fixed-term contract.

The Role

As a Woodland Apprentice, you will gain practical experience while supporting woodland conservation and management projects across Eryri National Park.

Working alongside the Conservation, Woodlands and Agriculture team, you will assist with a wide range of forestry and habitat management activities, including woodland maintenance, tree nursery management, planting and vegetation management.

You will also help deliver projects that protect and enhance the National Park’s landscapes while developing the skills and experience needed for a career in the sector.

Additionally, you will:

- Help establish and protect woodland, hedgerows and farmland vegetation
- Carry out invasive species control and habitat management
- Construct, maintain and repair fencing, hedging and walling
- Manage vegetation through coppicing, cutting, felling, spraying and thinning
- Help maintain equipment and vehicles
- Assist with tree safety inspections and related work

About You

To be considered as a Woodland Apprentice, you will need:

- The ability to communicate in Welsh and English
- To be an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, willing to learn
- Good communication and people management skills
- The ability to work individually and as part of a team
- An awareness of National Park purposes
- At a minimum, pass grades (G) in GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
- A full, valid driving licence

Please note, this role will involve working outdoors in extreme weather and ground conditions.
