Equal Opportunities

At Transport for Wales we value diversity. It makes us stronger, helps us understand our customers better, make better decisions and be more innovative. Everyone’s different and has their own perspective so we’re building a diverse team that mirrors the communities we serve. Through this we’re determined to be one of Wales' leading inclusive employers.  We’re creating an inclusive transport network that everyone in Wales can be proud of.

Who we are

At Transport for Wales, we’re on a mission to transform transport in Wales and make it fit for the future, whether that’s rail, bus, walking or cycling. We want to inspire a nation to change the way it travels, so that we all travel more sustainably and help to combat the climate emergency we’re all facing.

We’re an open and inclusive place to work, where everyone is welcome and our people are supported to reach their full potential. We want to create an environment where our people can grow and succeed. This is key to enabling us to deliver on the promises we’ve made to the people of Wales to build a sustainable transport network that meets their needs.

Role responsibilities

The UNO Programme aims to create a single, integrated platform for all of Transport for Wales' public services.

This is a digital transformation programme to support customers and colleagues to plan and pay for their journeys, to include a user-friendly digital interface (new website and application) and will allow customers to plan journeys, purchase tickets, and access real-time information for multiple types of transport. This will be inclusive and include support for those who cannot use digital interfaces.

By simplifying multiple ways we travel by providing a seamless customer experience, UNO is projected to increase sustainable journeys, generate revenue, and deliver significant social and economic benefits for Wales.

The Business Analyst will support the UNO Digital Transformation team and other workstreams in the UNO Programme to deliver work across all 4 workstreams, to improve the effectiveness of Transport for Wales (TfW) as an organisation, and to deliver improvements to the user experience of public transport services in line with Welsh Government (WG) transport policy and strategy.

  • Analyse TfW's current processes to understand their operation and effectiveness by mapping out existing processes, gathering performance data, and identify areas for improvement. Eliminate duplication, automate tasks, suggest system changes, enhance training, and improve documentation to ensure efficiency is increased, costs are reduced, and processes are aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Lead on capturing business requirements for complex workstream delivery by engaging with stakeholders and documenting business requirements, acting as the interface between the workstream, business and the IT and Digital team to confirm the priority rating for different requirements.

  • Lead on gathering requirements for complex UNO Programme procurements through engagement with internal stakeholders across the organisation including shadowing frontline operational roles to gain better insight of the end user needs.

  • Build and prepare business cases, decision papers and progress reports for complex UNO Programme delivery and put forward for review and agreement by Exe Steering Groups and Executive Boards, by working with project managers and supply teams to determine costs and timescales, for delivery of requirements and set these out alongside all the corresponding benefits to be delivered.

Who we’re looking for

  • Degree level qualification in IT or have equivalent experience.
  • Experience of performing a Business Analyst function on a variety of projects.
  • Demonstrable experience of writing process flow documents, project reports, and business cases and requirements for procurement documents.
  • Knowledge and experience of gathering requirements for IT and Digital procurements.
